Dining

Proper Food, Cooked Slowly

Our kitchen does not chase trends. It follows the seasons, the coast and the farms just down the road, turning out plates built for hungry walkers and long, lazy lunches alike.

Seasonal Menu

Dishes change with the fields: hearty in the colder months, lighter once the garden fills up in summer. Always cooked properly, never rushed.

Sunday Roasts

Thick cut meat, crisp potatoes and a jug of gravy that keeps coming. Our Sunday tables are the first to fill, so booking ahead is a good idea.

West Country Larder

Meat and vegetables from Devon farms, cheeses from across the West Country. We know where our ingredients come from, and we're glad to tell you.

The Bar

Local Ales, Proper Cider

Pull up a stool by the fire. We keep a rotating line up of cask ales alongside real cider, poured by people who know the difference between a good pint and a great one.

  • Cask Marque Accredited
  • CAMRA Listed
  • Log Fire in Winter

Darts, dominoes and a well used board games shelf keep the bar ticking over. Our darts and skittles teams have called this place home for years, and there's always room for one more.

Usually On Tap

  • Rotating Cask Ales up to eight, mostly local
  • Sandford Orchard Cider three, straight from the Devon orchard
  • A Proper Gin Shelf for the non ale drinkers

The board changes with what's in season and what the brewery has going. Ask at the bar for what's pouring today.

The Setting

Garden, Fireside and Muddy Boots Welcome

However you arrive, on foot from the Blackdown Hills, along the Grand Western Canal, or straight from the car park, there's a spot waiting for you.

  • A garden that catches the afternoon sun, built for long drinks and longer chats.
  • Dogs welcome throughout, with water bowls out and no funny looks for wet fur.
  • A log burner for the colder months and a genuinely cosy room to sit in.
  • No dress code, no fuss: walkers, families and regulars all get the same warm welcome.
